Kivu & Forest Journeys covers the arc of western Rwanda that most itineraries rush through: the Congo Nile Trail's ridgeline cycling, sunrise kayaking between Lake Kivu's coffee islands, and the ancient rainforest of Nyungwe with its chimpanzees and canopy walkway.
Founded in Rubavu in 2016 by a former competitive cyclist and a Nyungwe bird guide, the company runs the west from the water up — its kayak fleet is the largest on the lake, and its chimpanzee treks are timed around the trackers' dawn radio calls rather than a fixed hotel breakfast hour.
Trips lean active but never punishing; every cycling stage has a support vehicle, and every kayak morning ends at a coffee washing station with something freshly roasted.
