6-Day Honeymoon in the Mist

4.9(19 reviews)·Kigali → Volcanoes → Lake Kivu·Offered by Emerald Rwanda Collection

6-Day Honeymoon in the Mist

Rwanda at its most romantic: a gorilla trek shared with no one but each other (and a family of gorillas), candlelit dinners at a lodge folded into a volcanic amphitheatre, and three slow days on a quiet Lake Kivu shore where the itinerary dissolves into sunrise paddles and long lunches.

The trip is built for two. Private vehicle and guide throughout, rooms chosen for their fireplaces and views, and the small touches handled quietly in the background — flowers, a private candlelit dinner on the trek night, a couples' massage on the lake. You will not look at a schedule after day two.

  • Private candlelit dinner at a luxury Virunga lodge
  • Three unhurried days on a quiet Lake Kivu shore

Day by day

  1. 1

    Day 1Kigali

Kigali arrival & north to the volcanoes

Met at the airport with the paperwork already done, a relaxed lunch in the city, and the golden-hour drive north to Kinigi. Champagne on the deck as the volcanoes go violet.

Bisate LodgeIconic thatched villas in a volcanic amphitheatreLunch & dinner included
  2. 2

    Day 2Volcanoes National Park

    Gorilla trekking & candlelit dinner

The dawn briefing, the walk up through the bamboo, and the hour that will headline every anniversary retelling: a mountain gorilla family going about its morning a few metres away. Back at the lodge, the afternoon is yours — sauna, forest walk, nothing at all — before a private candlelit dinner set away from the main lodge.

  3. 3

    Day 3Lake Kivu

    Down to the lake

A lazy breakfast, then the ninety-minute descent to Gisenyi and a beachfront suite on Lake Kivu's sandy bay. The only fixture is sunset: a private boat, a cool box, and the fishermen singing their way out for the night catch.

    Day 4–5Lake Kivu

    Lake Kivu, unscheduled

Two deliberately open days. Suggestions, not obligations: a dawn kayak on glass water, a boat to the coffee islands with a picnic, the couples' massage, a stroll to a hot spring, or an unbroken afternoon with two books and a pot of Rwandan tea. Your guide is on call; the schedule is not.

Better than the wedding

We cried at the gorillas, laughed the whole way down the mountain, and then did nothing spectacularly well for three days on the lake. The candlelit dinner at Bisate — surrounded by fireflies — was the single most romantic night of our lives.

Every detail thought of

Flowers in the room, our names on the picnic basket, a guide who knew when to narrate and when to disappear. The mix of one big adventure and three empty days is exactly what a honeymoon should be.
